Good “Top 10″ Resource for SaaS Providers

Nov 20, 2008 by

Joel York of Chaotic Flow recently put together a nice reference document outlining some “Do” and “Don’t” best practices for SaaS providers.

I particularly enjoyed the reference to the early days of the auto industry discussed in “Do” number 8. That seemed to be a time when the US Big 3 innovated! Joel’s list seems quite complete, although there is always room for more. Feel free to list any other key “Do” or “Don’t” tips, and maybe we can compile a community best practices glossary!

  1. Your short post got me thinking over the past few days. Those who innovate in the worst of times are often the most successful – it is true. But even more important is understanding the basic rules of product development – how to take your innovation to market and make it a success. SaaS takes a more agile and “long tail” approach to product development that few seem to consider before they start building their application.

Being the first to build the lightbulb isn’t enough – you have to both build it and market it or everyone will continue using their gas and candles. Electric Lamp? You need electricity for that right? ahhh…
